It has been utilized to reduce anxiety and stress at least since the Middle Ages.

According to a study, people who took regularized 600mg of lemon balm extracts were more alert and calmer than those who took a placebo medication.

  1. Though it is basically safe, you should be wary that several studies have found that using too much lemon balm could actually increase your anxiety. 
  2. Thus, follow instructions and start taking it in small doses.
  3. Lemon balm can be bought as tincture, capsule, and tea. 

Oftentimes, it is mixed with other sedative herbs such as valerian, chamomile, and hops.

Passion flower

This herb will not help you fall in love, in spite of its name.

It is one of the sedative herbs.

The government in Germany has approved passionflower for nervous restlessness.

Passionflower could cause drowsiness and sleepiness like other sedatives.

You must be careful when you are using more than one sedative herb at a time. Also, do not use passionflower for a longer than 1 month at a time.

Lavender

Talk to your doctor if you are thinking about taking herbal supplements to treat anxiety.

This is especially true if you’re taking other prescription drugs.

The interaction of certain drugs and some herbal supplements could cause severe side effects.

Several herbs could cause drowsiness or sleepiness. Therefore, it might not be safe to take when you’re doing dangerous tasks, such as driving.

Talk to your doctor to know the benefits and possible risks of taking herbs.
